Barbara Jordan

In 1972, she was elected to the United States House of Representatives, becoming the first black woman from a Southern state to serve in the House.

Weeks before she passed away, I introduced myself to Ms. Jordan at an art house cinema here in Houston. I was able to have enough nerve to tell her how much I admired her.
