Skyrim's Best Weapons

Daedric Weapons

  • The Daedric weapons come in many forms; battleaxes, bows, daggers, swords, greatswords, war axes, maces, and warhammers. Choose the weapon that best fits your character build.
  • Daggers can be dual-wielded and swung quickly, while battleaxes are slow but provide more damage per hit. In the center of the curve is the greatsword used two-handed.
  • While Daedric weapons aren’t the best in the game by default, they can be upgraded, unlike the unique weapons listed below.
  • To create a truly powerful weapon, pick one that fits your build, that matches your skills, then smith and enchant. Increasing your smithing and enchant skills to maximum with perks will allow you to upgrade Daedric weapons.
  • The trickiest part of building Daedric weapons is getting your hands on Daedra Hearts. Daedra Hearts are dropped by Daedra, or demons, and these monsters alone are very rare in Skyrim.
  • After reaching level 25, all Achemist vendors have a chance to carry a Daedra heart for sale. Play the Thieve’s Guild faction quests to unlock a College of Winterhold Fence, they will also sell Daedra Hearts.
  • Another source of Daedra Hearts is through Enthir, in the Hall of Attainment in the College of Winterhold. Introduce yourself, they’ll sell and restock Daedra Hearts every two days. Beware, completing the College of Winterhold faction quest string will make you unable to purchase Daedra hearts from Enthir.
  • To create Daedric Weapons, you need a skill level of 90 in smithing, and taken the Daedric Smithing Perk. While leveling up your Enchant skill, take the Enchanter perk until it is maxed out at 5, then your weapons will become 100% stronger.
  • Use fortify smithing potions to boost your smithing skill once Enchantment is fully leveled up to boost the strength of your smithed weapons even higher. With full Smithing and Enchantment skills, an upgraded Daedric two-handed sword can kill everything but a dragon in one hit.
  • The Daedric Dagger can also be a destructive weapon with a Sneak skill higher than 50, allowing the player a times 15 damage bonus to sneak attacks. For the stealth player, this can be a very deadly weapon.
  • For players not interested in upgrading, scroll down to see other unique weapons that can be discovered in Skyrim.
Wuuthrad

  • This special battle-axe has identical stats to the Daedric Battleaxe, except it weighs less. For players with a high skill in two-handed weapons, this is a great find.
  • Found during the Companion’s faction quest string. This unique axe can also be enchanted further, unlike other weapons with an enchantment already, giving this special weapon added versatility for enchanters.
Mehrune’s Razor

  • This weapon can be obtained in the quest, “Pieces of the Past” by talking to Silus in the Dawnstar Museum.
  • While this weapon doesn’t have the same damage output as the Daedric Dagger, it does have a 5% chance to instantly kill any target, including plot-important NPCs.
  • If you feel like swinging this blade wildly in a desperate situation, you just might get lucky.
Ghostblade

  • A useful early weapon, the Ghostblade can be found in the Ansilvund Excavation after defeating the leader. Find it northeast of Tolvald’s cave in Eastmarch.
  • Not a powerhouse, but a hefty sword that ignores armor, giving you an early advantage against heavy armored opponents.
Eduj and Okin

  • These two legendary weapons are both found in the same place — Volunruud, south of Dawnstar, and above the Silent Moons’ campsite.
  • Two powerful early game weapons will help, but you’ll have to defeat a difficult boss to capture them. Eduj is a legendary sword, while Okin is a legendary axe.
Sanguine’s Rose

  • This special staff can summon a Daedric creature to defend you for 90 seconds. For any player in need of some quick help, the Dremora serves as a good fighter and damage sponge.
  • To find it, you’ll need to enter into a drinking contest with a random bar patron, Sam Guinevere, and drink three times. After passing out, you’ll enter into a quest. Complete the quest and receive this unique weapon as a reward.
Bolar’s Oathblade

  • Found inside the Bloated Man’s Grotto, on the northern edge of Falkreath, east of Sunderstone Gorge. This katana-style sword is worth a good amount of gold for early adventurers.
  • The sword itself comes with a double enchantment; draining stamina and instilling fear in your enemies with every strike.
Dragonsbane

  • Another unique katana-style weapon. This sword is enchanted with a +25 damage bonus to dragons, and a +10 shock damage bonus to everything else.
  • Find the sword in Sky Haven Temple, near the Karthspire in the Reach. Search near about the center of the Reach territory.
Mace of Molag Bal

  • This deadly mace comes with an absorb strength and absorb magic enchantment, easily crippling any fighter or mage in a fight.
  • Acquire this unique weapon by entering Markarth and talking to an NPC outside the abandoned house. Complete the “House of Horrors” quest to get your hands on this unique mace.
Blade of Woe

  • The special ebony blade is given by Astrid for the quest “Hail Sithis!” during the Dark Brotherhood quest chain.
  • This unique dagger’s enchantments increase in strength as you level up.
Dawnbreaker

  • A powerful sword against undead, it causes bonus burn damage against any type of enemy, but gives a chance to cause an explosion that turns undead or destroys them when killing undeand enemies.
  • To receive this sword, you’ll need to complete “The Break of Dawn” quest. Start this quest by discovering the Shrine of Meridia, found south of Wolfskull Cave, west of Solitude. You must be over level 12 to start this quest.
Wabbajack

  • This unique weapon isn’t very powerful but it does offer a series of strange and random effects with every hit. To find the Wabbajack, you must complete “The Mind of Madness” quest. Start the quest by talking to Dervenin, a beggar wandering around Solitude.
  • The weapon is enchanted to cause an unpredictable and random effect. Not every effect is good though, so check out the list of known effects: fireball, thunderbolt, frost rune explosion, invisibility on the target, disintegrate, clone target, summons a dremora to fight for the target, and transformation effects.
  • Transformation effects range from chickens, to mud crabs, to Dremora Lords. Very rarely, the target will transform into a coin.
  • The Wabbajack is a Daedric Artifact, but it’s effects must be recharged, and the effects don’t work on dragons.
