Quoted as the "gay man's Lord of the Rings", I see why. Costumes, make-up, set design, music. Everytime Jennifer Hudson sang I wept a bit (lie..a lot). It was such a treat. I saw the original as a yound adult and I enjoyed this in a different way. Jennifer Hudson carried that movie. OMG! I am such a fan of hers.

Our new baby, Katarina
"Many believe the Russian Blue is a natural breed originating from the Archangel Isles in northern Russia. Legend has these beautiful animals trapped for their plush double coats which are sometimes compared to the coat of a beaver or seal. Originally known as the Archangel Cat or Foreign Blue, it is believed that they were brought by sailors from the Archangel Isles to England and Northern Europe in the 1860s. Rumor also has the Russian Blue as a descendant of the Royal Cat of the Russian Czars and as a favored pet of Queen Victoria."
Such a beautiful photo from such a bad situation. This was on the front of the NY Times & I thought it looked like a surreal Hieronymus Bosch painting or a staged
David LaChapelle photo similar to the one below.
The artist/photographer has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. The NY Times photo from today is similar in some ways to the one I have posted to the right from an editorial piece he did for Italian Vogue. Check out his work at the jump below.

This panel is so amazing. Check out this future Wonder Woman from Carlos Pacheco's current Superman run. The last issue of the Superman comic blew me away.
The processed wooden material has the feel and grain pattern of natural wood and proves to be harder than engineering plastics such as ABS and polycarbonate resins.

"Pushing the naturally flamboyant Rococo style to a new level, this high-gloss lacquer piece injects a wild splash of colour into a contemporary interior."
Oil Lamp Building?
Scheduled for completion by the 2008 Beijing Olympics, a gigantic tower shaped like an oil lamp will soon be the centerpiece of China's "lighting capital" Guzhen. They wanted a monument that would be as fitting a symbol for their city as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. The $38 million Century Giant Lamp Tower will stretch 430,560 square feet over 48 floors, with an immense glass chimney on which an array of images will be projected at night from inside. With an observation deck at its crown, the building has a base that will contain shops, restaurants, and a museum to document 'humanity’s quest for light against darkness.'

The Automat is back!
Last seen in America in an old Doris Day movie. I posted one of the many that I saw in Europe. Now, NYC has a new one.
Bamn provides tasty, inexpensive, real food for people on the go. It's the return of the automat, filled with bite-sized burgers, mac & cheese, pizza, chicken strips, grilled cheese, hot dogs, pork buns, and lots of other great stuff - made fresh throughout the day.

Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, will soon become one of the coolest cities in the world. Why, you ask? Because they're planning to build a 500-foot-high "tent" over the entire metropolis to keep it warm in the winter. It'll be made from a special material that absorbs sunlight to give the effect of summer year-round, allowing lucky Kazaks to play tennis and go swimming while the rest of Eastern Europe is stuck bundling up and trudging through snow.

A New Species
A new type of crab with a furry appearance, found near Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean, was so unusual it warranted a whole new family designation, Kiwaidae.

My Cousins, Maddox & Chase

Faux Bois Sunglasses
Dayumit. I have had it in my head that I wanted a pair of faux bois sunglasses since before Eric & I went to Italy. I looked all over there for a cheap pair. These John Varvatos at Barney's are not cheap. Maybe Target will follow with a cheap pair.
Don't even think that I would not like to live or work here.
Thanks for the link BFF, Liz.
Burberry Boarding Bag

Sci-fi Android Pony
This android pony stands over three feet tall, and really “comes alive” as she moves and responds to your loving care! Touch or talk to your pony and her head moves! As you continue to interact with her, watch her ears wiggle and her eyes blink! Be sure to take extra-special care of your pony. “Feed” her the carrot and groom her with her brush. Watch her swish her tail back and forth! She even whinnies and snorts, and will sniff your hand! Sit on your pony for a pretend ride and she makes walking sounds. I read it holds up to 200 punds.

Previously, I posted about the Sky Mirror. I didn't think I would get to see it, but I was able to see the mirror the day before and the day after with a slice taken out. It must have been awesome from the offices in the area above the central plaza.
"Do you have a map?"
"Cuz, I’m lost in your eyes."
This was a tear from a recent Fossil catalog. I just had to post it in for some reason.
Wealth & Dubai
This image was pulled from Marie Claire this month. The editorial was shot in Dubai and I am fascinated with that country. I love this shot so much I had to post it.
The World’s Most High-Tech Urinal
In an effort to handle its nighttime public urination problem, Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is considering installing urinals that disappear below street level during the day. Unlike the automated, self-cleaning toilets planned for Toronto and Vancouver, which are enclosed booths with doors that that automatically open after a set time period, the Urilift system is a two-meter high stainless steel cylinder with three alcoves, each with a urinal, and no doors.
Biggest Machine in the World
The world’s biggest moving machine is Bagger 288, a giant trencher or bucket excavator. It is 300 meters long and weighs 45,500 tons!

Grand Canyon Glass Bridge
The Skywalk U-shaped footbridge extends 65 feet beyond the lip of the Grand Canyon, with zero support from below. Set for completion next month, the $30 million balcony consists of two curved, parallel steel beams joined together by a 2.5-inch-thick glass floor, offering a view of the ground nearly three quarters of a mile below. To secure the bridge, 96 steel rods bore 50 feet into the canyon wall just beneath the visitors’ center, and a set of 1.6-ton steel dampers brace the structure against gusts up to 90mph.
