Le RΓ©veillon actually has nothing to do with New Years. It is the traditional midnight meal on Christmas Eve. I have great memories of coming home from Midnight Mass (actually ended at midnight, started at 11pm) and sitting down with my family and having a HUGE meal at midnight. We used to hurry up to eat so we could open our gifts after the meal.
For a traditional french canadian New Year's greeting, use "Bonne AnnΓ©e grand nez" to wich the proper response is "Pareillement grand dents".

    Bonne AnnΓ©e Rob
