NxtUp...The Gay

Out & About

A new report from UCLA’s Williams Institute says that the number of out gay couples has quadrupled since 1990, particularly in the more right-leaning South, Midwest and Mountain regions. Says senior research Gary Gates:

"Clearly, more same-sex couples are willing to openly identify themselves as such on government surveys."

A combination of growing social acceptance and migration to the South and West means that same-sex couples are becoming increasingly visible in the most politically and socially conservative parts of the country.

I am fortunate enough to be openly gay in my workplace. Retail advertising seems to be a little more accepting of the "Gay". At one time I worked for Oshman's Sporting Goods and I was openly gay there as well. That environment was more accepting than the place I work for now. Not everyone in my office is accepting of it, but everyone
has a right to believe what they want to. In general I can be genuine and I know how
lucky I am to be that way. The image Queerty used is perfect for this becuase people seemed to be a little less threatened by cartoon characters that represent homosexuality.
