Boys in Pink

This is a very sweet article & my partner, Eric, wrote this in response:

"I have worked in HIV/AIDS prevention for the past 12 years and know
first hand the number of transgender teens and adults who become
infected with HIV or who are murdered or who commit suicide. Why?
Because society tells them they cannot dress like or live their lives as
the opposite sex. This is not a choice for them. These human beings
struggle with their gender identity, truly feeling like they are trapped
in the wrong body. Most will say they began feeling that way at a young
age and many will say their parents did not allow them to express
themselves. Therefore, they often live in extreme internal conflict --
to make themselves happy or to conform to society.

Some of you think they are bad parents or crazy, but maybe they are
trying to save their son's life by truly accepting him for who he is.
Parents should be putting their foot down and saying "NO" to children
who bully, tease, and make fun of other kids. All of us have seen
reports of school shootings and massacres, often by kids who were
bullied or teased in school, so maybe it's time for us to accept other
children for expressing themselves.

I applaud Cookie magazine for printing this story. And I give this
mother (and father) a standing ovation for letting their child express
himself and for writing this article."
